As part of the Major Arcana watercolour print series, the Lovers print represents the sixth card of the major arcana cards in a Tarot deck.
The Lovers simply refer to relationships and love. These test our strengths and our weaknesses, it is often the catalyst for personal growth and change. It represents our ability to align our self with another and the choices that we make along the way, bringing trust and intimacy to the relationship. The Lovers represents new relationships, the possibility of commitment, or old relationships. It represents a choice that will have an affect on both the holder and the lover. The Lovers teaches us to transcend conditions and rules in our journey towards love. We must be careful not to make anyone, or thing, an obsession and to remind ourselves not to be captivated by romantic love.
Ivy is depicted in the painting as it symbolized true love, marriage and friendship. Ivy can also be associated with sensuality and forbidden pleasures as it is a plant that grows best in the shade. Paired with the Lovers, ivy shows that true love can grow in all places.
